Private household employees
More information can be found on the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs' website under the Private Household Employees Ordinance of 6 June 2011 Directive.
- Members of the top management (“B” legitimation card)
- Senior officials (“C” legitimation card)
- Professional category officials (“D” legitimation card)
The private servant must work full-time (45 hours) for the same employer. In exceptional circumstances, a private household employee may be authorised to work for a maximum of 2 employers.

The net salary is 1200 CHF minimum. Nothing can be deducted from this amount. A higher net salary may be stipulated in the employment contract.
Child minders
A child minder is a person who has been given authority by the competent governing body to look after between 1-4 children in their home. Without approval the child minder is not authorised to work, and may be subject to criminal sanctions.
