General
The Pension Fund has guidelines for the implementation of CERN’s Code of Conduct, which can be found on the Pension Fund website. The CERN procedures and practices applicable to members of personnel can be found in the administrative e-guide published on the Human Resources Department website.
(use of Code)
The Code of Conduct provides guidance to all CERN contributors, including management. Moreover, setting the tone at the leadership level stresses the Organization’s commitment to the Code of Conduct and is an important step towards promoting the CERN values organization-wide. Management is ultimately responsible for setting a highly ethical tone for the entire Organization.
(applicability of Code to Management)
Yes. The Code of Conduct also applies to sub-contractors as a condition to their performing their activities on the CERN site. CERN expects that contractors encourage and work with their sub-contractors to ensure that they are informed about the Code of Conduct and that they comply with the relevant parts.
(applicability to sub-contractors)
You are bound by the CERN Code of Conduct even when not on site but engaged in any capacity on behalf of CERN.
(use of Code)
You should read the Code of Conduct carefully and familiarize yourself with its content. This is both your responsibility and in your interest: the Code of Conduct is intended to provide guidance on the existing rules governing the conduct of CERN contributors. It is designed to help you understand both your rights and your obligations.
(use of Code)
The Code of Conduct is designed to help us each understand our rights and obligations and is not intended as a way of catching out colleagues. That said, if you see a flagrant violation of the Code, you ought to address it. Ideally, you should discuss it in a constructive fashion with your colleague, using the Code as a vehicle for dialogue. Should circumstances not make it possible, or appropriate, to have this form of discussion, you could contact your hierarchy, the Human Resources Department or Internal Audit. If the violation involves an interpersonal conflict you are involved in, you could also contact the Ombuds Office.
